The first district in the Pikes Peak region of Colorado is climbing towards the summit of Digital Convergence. Join us to hear how our thoughtful, intentional, and personalized implementation of the Framework is making Digital Convergence a reality in our schools. Our journey has been unique, and we are excited to share our story from the very beginning along with how we have gained momentum to propel our empowered learners forward within new, innovative, modern learning environments. Through the challenges of adding several new members to our leadership team and battling the constant threat of never having enough time, explore our action steps that have brought great success during our first year and a half of hiking the peak toward Digital Convergence.

Explore the impact of going 1:1 without a supporting Instructional Model. While this was Rock Hill’s experience in 2011, today they are making tremendous strides to personalize learning for their students. Learn how this community has turned the tables from focusing on the technology alone to building a strong foundation and "why" for instructional technology. Through an unprecedented turnover in leadership and amid a teacher shortage, Rock Hill is using their Instructional Model, LEAP, to build culture, community, and purpose through a shared vision.

In May of 2017, the J.O. Combs Unified School District sent two administrators, who would be moving into the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment department starting in the 2017-2018 school year, to a Modern Teacher event in Charleston, South Carolina. Upon their return, the district prepared to embark on their journey forward. This presentation will focus on their work to begin #Forward and how the #RedforEd movement catalyzed their Professional Learning model to launch the initiative district-wide. The presentation will provide an insight to the district’s work with leadership and the systems necessary to engage in the change process, not only at the individual level, but district-wide. The #RedforEd movement in Arizona and the subsequent teacher walkouts and missed days of school will be examined in relation to the work that the district had been engaged in and how the district leveraged the additional staff development days that resulted to fast forward their launch plans and take those plans district-wide. Finally, the presentation will share the results of the launch as the 2018-2019 school year began and how the Professional Learning from the spring impacted the development and implementation of district-wide Professional Learning when teachers returned to school. This included the use of the Modern Teacher Professional Learning platform to create a district-wide PL Module reinforcing Professional Learning Communities and Understanding by Design through a blended learning format.

Community Stage 3
The district’s instructional model identifiers intentionally expand the boundaries of where learning can occur, both formally and informally.
Community Stage 5
The district considers creating programmatic options for students that include a full blended learning school and a full virtual school option.
Community Stage 6
The district has multiple options for students during their preK-12 experience including, but not limited to: brick and mortar options with some blended courses available, full blended school options, and full virtual options.
The Modern School District offers multiple pathways for students and teachers. Come learn about an innovative Blended School Model that offer students an innovative pathway with Virtual and Brick & Mortar experiences aligned to authentic learning experiences. Meeting the needs of all students today has become increasingly more difficult and challenging for school districts as students and families have more choices to leave traditional systems for alternative options. Blended Schools is a parallel path to accelerate innovation in a district that will expand the educational opportunities in your system to provide engaging curriculum focused on "Learning by Doing". Come join the conversation to bring back students and revenue to your systems.
